About Us

Lifeline Housing aims to invent a new way to address the housing needs of our most vulnerable citizens, by designing and building efficient tiny housing units

Coming from over 25 years of experience in the rental housing business in the San Francisco Bay Area, the shortage of rental housing has never been this bad. This shortage has driven the prices of existing rental units through the roof, pricing many folks out of the market and out into the streets, living in their cars, or under bridges in tents.

Society's answer to the homeless situation is to look the other way.

Homeless shelters, while well-meaning are expensive to build, provide staffing and operate. And most of all they do not solve the problem with a permanent solution.

Lifeline Housing has a different solution that encourages independent living through tiny homes. They are self-sustaining and do not create a constant drain on public funds!

So Far..

Currently, we have developed several tiny house prototypes.

Our units are mobile and can be easily adapted for foundations and variety of other uses. Our current units are designed to meet the needs of independent living, but without the excess baggage of extra square footage and overhead.

<< Our First Unit

Our first unit has 136 sq. ft. of living space. The unit features a full kitchen including a two-burner stove top, refrigerator, microwave and even a kitchen sink. There is a full bath with a toilet, basin and full-size shower. In the main living area, there is a couch that folds out to create a queen-size bed, with storage underneath in bins. There is also large clothes closet with storage as well on top. The unit has a flat screen TV and a ceramic low-energy heater. Additionally, there is a 50 sq. ft. deck outside for socializing with neighbors.

<< Our Second Unit

The second unit is smaller and designed as an entry level unit that can be located on any city vacant lot. For the unit to be operational, it only needs an electrical hook-up and then it can start providing a much-needed home for someone in need. This unit would be used in conjunction with a mobile shower and kitchen unit, for communal use.

First Pres. Tiny House Village

We had the privilege to work with First Presbyterian Church of Hayward to develop a Tiny House Village, consisting of six tiny house units in the back parking lot of their church. The Tiny Houses were built offsite with donated labor and materials.

Each of the units have a full bathroom and kitchen, a combination living/bedroom space and a private lawn and patio area. The units are 153 sq. ft in all. The church has created a transitional housing program to administer these units. They have rented out the units to prescreened clients, with a starting rate of $200.00 per month. Every four months, the rent increases. All funds received over the initial $200.00 per month goes into a savings account for the client. Additionally, the church partners with clients on building job and life skills, as well as assisting them in their search for permanent housing.

Current Projects

Berry Ave Transitional Housing

Our current project on the drawing board, is a fifteen-unit Tiny House Village in Hayward, California. The village would be an add-on to an existing large single-family home lot, which would be developed into a community run transitional housing facility with inclusive wrap-around services.

The lot can fit fifteen tiny houses, complete with their own individual full kitchen, bathroom, living space and private deck. These units will be arranged to ensure that each resident has access to off-street parking in the comfort of a gated community. We will be partnering with a supportive housing provider to screen and provide wrap-around services for clients with an onsite manager.

Our goal is to encourage not only independent living, but also provide a sense of security and community support. Clients will be paying rent to begin their new life of independence and build stability for themselves through engaging in services.
